Hot Damn! What Are We Doing? The Biggest Pachanga Show Ever!
Alright, so this is officially, the biggest Latinx Comedy Pachanga Show we’ve ever done! This is the biggest line-up of Latinx artists we have ever put together. What are we doing???? What we always do! Bring our gente together and have a big party and call it a show!
When I look at this poster, my heart lights up. All the names, conjure positive feelings in me as I know almost each and every single artist in this group, save for a few I just met! Plus, we got some cool allies doing the show too.
Why We’re Doing This Show
Okay, so two things: 1). The Pachanga just turned two years old, and 2). it’s the tail end of Latinx Heritage Month. When we first put the Pachanga together, it was never intentional to have those dates overlap. It’s just how it worked out, but what a coincidence!
I’ve always been a person to make a big deal out of my birthday. I’m an extrovert, I like bringing people together, and I love parties. Naturally, I would want to have a big fiesta for the celebration of Richee and I’s baby, The Latinx Comedy Pachanga. But it’s not just our baby. It belongs to everyone who has worked with us from day one and every day after that.
We’ve had so many amazing collaborators join our growing community in these short two years. I have had an explosion in friendships and new collaborators like I’ve only experienced a handful of times in my life. The quality of Latinx artists that we have met is astounding, and a part of me is like, “Where have you been my whole life?”
And guess what? The majority are Latinx! We’ve met some awesome allies along the way too, and they are always welcome at the Pachanga. When the Pachanga is together – in whatever iteration that is – there is love, care, friendship, and empathy. We can be who we are and not have to code switch or put on act. Richee and I want to be friends with everyone, so we want that spirit be part of the heart and soul of the Pachanga.
The Pachanga is always going to try connect with Latinx artists and showcase them however we can. It’s one of our core missions. If they need help developing an idea or skill set, we’re going to do the best we can. We’re going to put on shows, table reads, potlucks, Zoom calls, one-on-ones, taco truck midnight dinners, bar hangs, and any other thing we can think of that will help out Latinx artists.
As Latinx gente, payasos, and poetas, we all come from different backgrounds. Just because were Latinx doesn’t mean we’re all friends off the bat, sometimes it takes time to bridge differences or establish trust. And hell, there are some people you’re never going to make friends with, but I’ll keep trying! However, I think all Latinx gente can agree on this: when we help each other out, everything is possible. And the Pachanga will always be here to help you out, mi gente!
