A New Chapter For The Pachanga
The LatinX Comedy Pachanga came together back in the Fall of 2018 because two friends – Fernando A. Funes and Richard Aaron – saw that there was a need for a Latinx sketch show in Los Angeles.
Fernando and Richee were tired of being tokens, of having to tone down their ethnicity in majority white sketch and improv teams, so they decided that it was time to create a space exclusivley for Latinx comedians.
These two friends put out the call to action, “Who wants to do a Latinx sketch show?” in the greater Los Angeles area. And guess what? There was a huge response!
It just wasn’t Richee and Fernando that saw a need for a Latinx sketch show – it was dozens!
The response was overwhelming; people wanted this to happen just as much as Richee and Fernando.
So the LatinX Comedy Pachanga was born!
Since then, we’ve done sketch shows, variety shows, improv mashups, taught workshops, done table reads, and helped artists in our community develop their voices and connect with each other.
Building this community has been the best part of this experience. And I don’t want to say just for me – this is Fernando by the way writing this – but for everyone involved.
However, times have radically changed these past few months with the outbreak of Covid-19.
The Coronavirus Pandemic has derailed completely our live stage shows for the foreseeable future.
Here’s the thing though. It’s not just the shows; it’s the rehearsals, the times in between, before at the theater space just shooting the shit, the lingering moments when you talk to someone as you walk to your cars together, or just getting food after a show! All those moments are on pause right now.
But as times are a changing, so are we!
We have to create new ways to stay connected to each other, continue growing and shaping our community, and most of all, sharing our art.
The talent in the LatinX Comedy Pachanga is astounding. So many talented people across so many mediums. We have to keep creating opportunities to share our gifts, to share our glow, so to do that we’re launching a website!

From poems to personal essays to movie reviews (and who knows what else!) we’re going to be talking about all things Latinx. So stay tuned for some blog posts coming at ya real soon!

First, we’re launching the Latinx Comedy Pachanga Podcast!
Richee and I will sit down with members from the Pachanga Community and just shoot the shit on all things Latinx.
The first episode premiers on Saturday August 15th. Stay tuned for our first guest.
Not only that, we’ll be premiering The Latinx Comedy Pachanga Potluck, a digital variety show, on Saturday September 5th.
