Why This Meme Resonates

I don’t know where this meme originated from, but damn does it resonate.

Why This Meme Resonates

Alright y’all, ever since this meme came in my feed courtesy of comedian and singer Carolina Hoyos – and pretty soon it was everywhere – it resonated with me immediately.

It’s an image of Selena and her murderer, Yolanda Saldivar.

Selena is a name I will always remember.

When you say “Selena” you can’t help but think of the powerful Tejana singer who inspired millions of Latinos everywhere with her beautiful voice, boundless talent, and what seemed like limitless potential.

Selena was the best of us. And in the pinnacle of her achievement – just the beginning really of who knows what kind of career – she was murdered by her “best friend,” her fan club manager, Yolanda Saldivar.

Yolanda Saldivar is a name I will never forget. It’s acid on my tongue. A smell tied to a painful memory I never want to recall willingly. Yolanda is the worst of us.

What’s tragic about all this is that Selena loved Yolanda. They were close friends. Selena trusted her with her fan club and boutiques. Yolanda took advantage of that relationship to embezzle money from Selena. When the family found out, they fired Yolanda. Selena tried to move forward with Yolanda on friendly terms when she went to that hotel room on March 31st, 1995. Yolanda couldn’t handle it, so she murdered her.

Yolanda killed Selena.

And the moment Yolanda killed Selena, they were tied forever. It’s hard to say Selena’s name without Yolanda coming up in the conversation some point.

Two friends could be talking about Selena, and one can be like, “Man, Selena was such an amazing singer. Como La Flor, dawg, that song always hits me in the heart.”

And the next person would say something like, “Too bad Yolanda Saldivar killed her.”

Yolanda murdered our hero, Selena.

So when you have the image of Selena with “Latinos” on it next to the image of Yolanda with “Latinos for Trump” on it, what it’s saying is that Latinos and Latinos 4 Trump are connected. And it’s fated, that Latinos 4 Trump are going to hurt Latinos in the coming election. That’s why it makes sense. It’s like a prophecy before your eyes you know is going to come true. That fatalistic

Does that mean I’m going to vote for Biden? I don’t want to, but I have to. That’s just how it is. I don’t know how many Latinos are excited about voting for Biden, but it’s better than voting for Trump. I don’t hate myself enough to vote for that dude.

Enjoy This Video of Selena

I don’t know what’s going to happen in this next election, but watch this video of Selena at the Astrodome to be inspired and be witness to the best of us.
